The developing dentition should be monitored throughout eruption of teeth. This monitoring is done at regular clinical examinations and we know that a lot of orthodontic problems can be simple to correct if picked up at an early age. Crooked teeth can occur due to a variety of reasons, some common ones being small size of jaws, large size of teeth or habits like thumb/finger/dummy sucking. If your child is a thumb/finger/dummy sucker then we will discuss in detail about approaches to help your child in order to stop the habit and correction of the bite if required.
Certain bite issues and orthodontic problems can be rectified at a young age while full braces are usually not commenced until all adult teeth have come through (this is usually around the age of twelve or thirteen years).
